Online consumers are sometimes faced with the administration task of verifying their address, age, credit card details and other pieces of personal information before being able to perform an online transaction.
Whilst this type of verification is necessary to comply with country laws and regulations, not only does this produce a potential security risk (as valuable personal information is kept with numerous online vendors) but also an extra administrative duty for the online consumer. Consumers are more likely to abandon the specific transaction due to the administrative burden it places on them.
Iamdentity aids both online service vendors and online consumers in relieving these administrative task while complying with country laws and regulations. We have introduced a rules engine that enable online vendors to control access to their goods and services. Vendors can specify additional verification requirements that have to be met before a consumer can successfully perform a transaction.
This also dramatically reduces the risk of online fraud and identity theft as the verification required makes it nearly impossible for potential fraudsters to obtain all the relevant pieces of information for performing an fraudulent online transaction.

Address Verification
More and more vendors are staring to implement address verification requirements to combat online fraud and to ensure the safe delivery of goods. We collect and securely store two acceptable forms of address verification (see below) from consumers. This information is stored electronically and it available (on request) to vendors for which the consumer has given permission to obtain the relevant documentation.
If the vendor has requested that a consumers' address has to be verified before performing a transaction, the consumer will not be able to log into the vendors' site before the address verification has been performed.
The following acceptable forms of address verification are deemed acceptable by iamdentity and can either be faxed, emailed or posted to iamdentity.
- Utility Bill (i.e. British Gas, BT, NTL) - mobile phone bills are not acceptable
- Council Tax Bill
- Recent bank statement
If a consumer changes their default address, our system will automatically flag the new address as unverified and the consumer need to provide verification of the new address.
The consumer will find this convenient as they only need to provide proof of address to one organisation (iamdentity) whilst all the other organisations will be able to request the proof of address if the consumer authorises it. It is also convenient for the vendor as it reduces the administration needed to verify individual addresses.
Age Verification
Some online services (gambling sites, dating sites etc) requires their users to be of a certain age. Currently there is no easy way for administrators of these sites to verify the real age of their subscribers. By using iamdentity, the administration task of age verification will be handled by iamdentity.
With the popularity of online chatrooms came the risk of unwanted people entering the chatrooms and communicating with vulnerable age groups. This creates a social dilemma as people in these age groups are easily influenced.
Now you can protect these chatrooms by implementing the iamdentity age verification service (included in iamdentity Realview and Complete) in order to control access to these chatrooms.
The following forms of age verification are deemed acceptable by iamdnetity and can either be faxed, emailed or posted to iamdentity:
People aged 18 and above
- Copy of Driving Licence
- Copy of Passport
- Copy of Birth Certificate
- Any document that can proof the age of the person
People under 18
- Letter from Parent or Guardian giving the individual permission to apply for an iamdentity account
- Address verification of Parent or Guardian
- Age verification of Parent or Guardian
